This training is custom tailored to each individual diver.
Since 2005 our focus has always been on training, not certification. While a certification card is provided after successfully completing a class, that card is earned through hard work. Your reward for your hard work is your newly developed skills, knowledge and confidence which increase your diving enjoyment and provide you the ability to pursue and enjoy a higher level of diving and explore new dive sites.
In keeping with that philosophy, this program is purely skills development training, rather than a formal class. This training focuses on fortifying your strengths and improving your weaknesses to make you a more confident, competent diver and maximize your diving enjoyment.
Our extensive training & experience has given us a keen ability to quickly identify methods to help improve your diving and achieve your own personal diving goals.
Simply put, this is a single day of skills development, whether those are existing skills which you are struggling to become proficient at, skills you haven't used in some time, pushing past a plateau, breaking those annoying bad habits that have formed, or simply knocking the dust off.
The only objective of this training is to steer your diving back on path to your individual goals.
This training is designed for any diver wanting to improve his/her overall comfort in the water, work on a known weakness, prepare for an upcoming class, transition to cold water, identify unknown weaknesses or simply address some of those bad habits that have formed in a one on one atmosphere, without the pressure of performing or passing a formal class.
Areas of focus may include:
We all have strengths and weaknesses. Maximizing your diving enjoyment requires you capitalize on your strengths and identify and improve your weaknesses. This training addresses all three.
Since 2005, our focus has always been on the training and development of our students, allowing them to safely conduct and enjoy dives at their current level of training. The certification card is simply documentation that they've completed the training.
Our extensive experience in our own diving, coupled with our broad training and experience teaching has provided us with an acute ability to quickly identify strengths and weaknesses in our students, and hone in on each. The end result is a well trained, confident diver who's able to enjoy their diving.
This training provides the diver with that same attention, outside of a formal class and the objectives of that class.
The sole objective of this training is for you to improve your diving skills, confidence and enjoyment.
Of course, this is non-evaluation.
This is a single day of training, including academic discussions, dry runs, at least 2 dives and video review.
Typically the training begins with a discussion involving your diving experience, the skills you'd like to work on, your overall diving goals and what you hope to achieve from the day. From that discussion we'll develop a plan for the day to enable you to achieve your objectives.
We'll follow that up with a discussion on the specific skills we'll focus on, including why those skills are important and the mechanics of the skills, along with dry runs of each skill. Dry runs allow the student to practice the skills on land under the watchful eye of the instructor, while developing muscle memory prior to the dive.
We'll then conduct 2 dives putting the skills and concepts learned in the discussions and dry runs into actual practice.
Discussions will be centered around your goals, methods to achieve those goals and addressing obstacles to them.
Heavy emphasis will be on video review.
Our diving days end with video review of the day's dives. All FKD classes are video'd for educational and review purposes only. We believe it is invaluable for students to visually focus on their individual in-water skills, situational awareness, communication and team diving. Learning to self evaluate is an important aspect of the class.
